Despite a quick start and an inspiring effort, the Carbon Dinos were unable to keep pace with the Grantsville Cowboys in a 47-23 loss Friday night in Grantsville.

“Grantsville is a tough team and they did not disappoint tonight,” said Carbon head coach Josh Huntsman. “I thought our kids fought hard and played well. Our first drive was nice and things kind of slowed down from there.”

Carbon managed to take an early 7-0 lead after Collin Lewis scored on a 43-yard touchdown run. The advantage was short lived as Grantsville scored the next 20-points of the contest.

Lewis continued to be a staple in the Carbon offense rushing for 149 yards and two touchdowns on only 17 carries. Lewis also hauled in a touchdown reception scoring from 23-yards out on the pass from Noah Jones.

As a team Carbon’s offense accumulated 241 yards and recorded 11 first downs. Turnovers proved to play a factor as the Dinos committed three, compared to just one from the Cowboys.

“Noah called the game well, pulled the ball when he needed to and did good things,” said Huntsman. “We gave Grantsville everything we had, they were just the better team tonight.”

Grantsville’s Parker Thomas continued to dazzle as he finished with 338 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Entering Friday’s contest as the leading rusher in 3A, Thomas has now rushed for over 200 yards in five games, including one 300-yard performance.

Friday’s loss drops Carbon to 1-2 in 3A North play and 1-6 overall on the season. Grantsville improves to 2-1 in region action and 6-1 overall.

With only two games remaining on the regular season slate the Dinos will now return home for the final two games of the season.

Friday Carbon will welcome in the No. 1 ranked Morgan Trojans, who are currently unbeaten in division play. Live coverage of Friday’s game will begin on KRPX 95.3 The Peak at 6:30 pm, followed by kick-off at 7:00.
