The Carbon Dinos will enter the second and final day of the 3A State Championship Tournament in third place following a productive first round at Meadow Brook Golf Course in Taylorsville Monday afternoon.

Led by Brady Gagon’s 75, Carbon finished the first round with a team score of 311. Morgan holds a comfortable advantage at the top of the leaderboard after shooting a 287. Judge Memorial is currently second at 308.

Kaden Slavenksy helped push the Dinos with a 78. Both Carson Martines and Nick Olson ended with a 79, giving Carbon a well rounded team performance. The 311 team score is four-strokes better than fourth place Union, and five better than fifth place Richfield.

The season finale tournament started with 13 teams from around the 3A classification. That number has been cut to eight as Juab, Manti, Delta, Providence Hall and Grantsville all missed the top eight, which was necessary to advance to the second day.

Gagon is currently five-strokes back of the leader Tanner Telford of Morgan, who shot a 70 during the first round. Three individuals are currently tied for second, trailing Telford by just one stroke.

Carbon’s Tyler Yoklavich will be the first to tee-off for the team on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m.. Every 10 minutes another member is scheduled to start, ending with Gagon at 10:20.
