The Emery Spartans qualified for the second and final day of the 3A State Golf Championship by making the eight team cut with a 335 team score at the Meadow Brook Golf Course in Taylorsville Monday afternoon.
Needing to finish within the top eight the Spartans edged ninth place Juab by one stroke. Morgan sits comfortably in first place at 287, 21-strokes better than second place Judge Memorial. Carbon is currently third, followed by Union and Richfield.
Oakley Toomer currently sits one-stroke behind Morgan’s Tanner Telford at the top of the individual leaderboard. Toomer is tied with two others for second after shooting a stellar 71 in the first round.
Taylor Lindsey delivered the second score of the afternoon for Emery with an 85. Logan Healey;s 89 and Shaidyn Killpack’s 90 represented the team’s third and fourth scores.
The season finale tournament started with 13 teams from around the 3A classification. That number has been cut to eight as Juab, Manti, Delta, Providence Hall and Grantsville all missed the first cut.
The Spartans will now prepare the second and final day of competition Tuesday morning. Devan Guymon will be the first tee-off at 8:50 a.m..
