The Carbon Dinos completed the 2018 golf season with a fifth-place finish at the 3A State Championship Tournament Tuesday afternoon at the Meadow Brook Golf Course in Taylorsville.

Entering the final day of competition in third place, the Dinos dropped two spots with a final team score of 640. Morgan waltzed to the state championship with a 587, followed by Judge Memorial and Richfield. Union just edged the Dinos by two strokes for fourth place.

Senior Carson Martines logged the low score of the tournament for Carbon with a two-day score of 156. Martines shot a 79 on Monday and improved by two-strokes on Tuesday with a 77.

Region 14 medalist Brady Gagon was second on the team with a two-day total of 158. After leading the Dinos on Monday with a 75, Gagon finished the tournament with an 83.

Nick Olson and Kaden Slavensky recorded the third and fourth scores for Carbon, finishing with a 162 and 164 respectively.

The fifth-place finish marks the fourth consecutive year that Carbon has finished in the top five at the state tournament. Finishing third overall the past two seasons Carbon also finished fifth in 2015.

The 2018 campaign was a highly successful one for the Dinos. After finishing unbeaten in Region 14 and clinching another division title, the team recaptured the Eastern Utah Cup last week in Roosevelt. While Gagon was the top golfer in the region, Martines and Olson also finished inside the top four.
