Despite a competitive first half the Carbon Lady Dinos dropped a 5-1 decision to the Juab Wasps on the road Thursday afternoon in the regular season finale.
Tied 1-1 at the end of the opening half, the Lady Dinos allowed four second half goals in the setback. Ryan Brady logged the only score for Carbon in the loss, recording her 10th goal of the season.
Entering Thursday’s game already locked into the No. 3 seed out of Region 14, the Lady Dinos had little to play for. Juab was faced with a similar situation already clinching the division’s No. 2 seed.
The loss moves Carbon’s final Region 14 record to 7-5 and overall team record to 8-6. After starting the season 5-1 overall the Lady Dinos ended losing five of their last eight tilts.
Carbon will now prepare for the opening round of the 3A State Championship Tournament, which will begin at home on Oct. 10 against the Emery Spartans. Emery finished the season as the No. 3 seed out of Region 15, setting the stage for the two rivals to meet in the opening round.
The 3A High School State Championship Tournament will work in true single elimination format. The winner of the Carbon-Emery game will move on to the quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 13.
