The Carbon Dinos dropped its second straight region 3A North contest, falling to the Morgan Trojans 42-0 Friday night at home.

The mighty Trojans entered Friday’s tilt as the No. 1 ranked team in 3A. Scoring 21 points in the first six minutes of the contest, Morgan wasted no time creating a hefty advantage. Up 35-0 at the break, the final two quarters worked under the mercy rule.

“That’s a really good football and they are a state championship contender,” said head coach Josh Huntsman. “Our guys will fight to the bitter end and that’s the beauty of this team. We lost by quite a few points tonight, but that’s football.”

Morgan quarterback Carter Thackeray converted three touchdown passes, showcasing his ability as a pocket passer. The air-attack proved to be too much for Carbon’s secondary, despite a solid effort defensively throughout the night.

Friday’s loss moves Carbon to 1-3 in 3A North play and 1-7 overall. Even with the loss the Dinos remain in control of clinching a home playoff spot.

Tied with the Emery Spartans for fourth and fifth place in the standings, Carbon will host last place Judge Memorial Friday in the finale. A win means the Dinos will host the No. 5 seed from the 3A South. A loss means a coin flip will determine seeding for fourth, fifth and sixth place.

Live coverage of Friday’s game will air on KRPX 95.3 The Peak beginning at 6:30 p.m.. Kick-off is slated for 7:00.
