The Carbon Lady Dinos encountered back-to-back season ending losses in the opening rounds of the 3A State Volleyball Tournament Wednesday evening at Utah Valley University in Orem.

Entering the season ending tournament as the No. 3 from Region 14, the Lady Dinos were matched with the South Sevier Rams, the No. 3 seed from Region 15.

Despite winning the first set 25-17, Carbon dropped the following three 25-21, 25-19 and 25-11. The loss sent the Lady Dinos down into the consolation bracket, ultimately ending the team’s championship hopes.

Faced with a win-or-go-home situation, Carbon suffered a straight set loss to the Richfield Wildcats 25-12, 25-19, 25-23. Richfield continued play through Thursday, defeating both Grantsville and Grand to finish sixth overall.

Playing year-one under head coach Teresa Mower the Lady Dinos showed marked improvement overall improving from a 3-8 region record in 2017 to 7-4 in 2018. Overall Carbon finished 10-13, earning one more win than 2017, but six less losses.
