The November calendar for the quaint town of Helper is full of upcoming events that community members will not want to miss. Helper City Council Member, Malarie Matsuda took time to stop by Castle Country Radio to share all the details of First Friday, Burlesque Fundraising Show, and Public Forum.
“November’s theme is Day of the Dead. So, they’re going to be having tamales, tamale vendors, photo booth, there will be a community altar. At Three Little Llamas they’re going to be doing a mask coloring activity,” said Matsuda. Also taking place will be a Best Dressed Contest at the Helper Hub located at 133 South Main Street for three categories – man, woman and child with cash prizes awarded. The winning adult will also receive tickets to the Burlesque Show taking place at 9:00 pm.
The Burlesque Show is being presented by the talented group, VooDoo Productions. “Then this is really exciting, the same night Helper’s Christmas Town is holding a fundraiser at The Rio – Burlesque is coming back,” announced Matsuda. “You can buy tickets they are $20.00, you can buy them at Balance Rock or Marshas. We do encourage people to buy them early because the last time we had it, it sold out and it’s been four years since VooDoo Productions has been back.” Individuals must be 18 years of age or older to attend. Doors will open at 8:00 pm and the show starts at 9:00 pm. There will also be a cash bar and concessions at the event. All of the proceeds earned from the event go towards the fireworks display during the Christmas festivities in December.
The Helper Project recently held a survey regarding the area near the train depot and will be hosting a public forum to talk about the results. “They’ll be going over the results of that first survey and collecting more feedback. So, it’s the Preliminary Findings Review. You can take the second follow-up survey online and if you go to the Helper Project’s Facebook page you’ll be able to find it there,” explained Matsuda. The forum will be held on November 15 at the Helper City Auditorium Council Chambers from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. This is a perfect way to facilitate dialogue with Helper Project officials and residents.
