Ten Emery High School senior student-athletes have been recognized for their excellence in the classroom during the 2018 fall season with a selection to the Academic All-State team in their respective sport by the Utah High School Activities Association and the Deseret News.

Oakley Toomer and Logan Healy are two of 11 representatives on the 3A boys golf academic team. Toomer finished second overall individually with a score of 144 at the 3A state tournament. Healy was a consistent contributor for the team throughout the season.

Kyson Stilson and Brock Winter are two of 11 members on the academic football team. Stilson, a two-year starter at quarterback, threw for a 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns this past season. Winter, also a two-starter, proved to be one of the top kickers in the classification.

Bailey Huggard is the lone member of the Emery Lady Spartans volleyball team to receive the academic honor. Entering the state tournament as the No. 3 seed from Region 15, Huggard helped the Lady Spartans rally to a third place finish in late October.

Jace Collard, Mason Faimalo and Walker Woolsey are three of 13 individuals to be named to the boys cross country team. Entering 2018 as the defending state champions, the three boys helped Emery to a second place finish at state last month.

Girls soccer players Morgan Hurdsman and Sydney Terwilleger join nine others who showed academic dominance. Hurdsman finished second in goals scored on the team with ten. Terwilleger helped the team advance past the opening round of the 3A State Tournament.

For over 25 years the UHSAA has presented the Academic All-State Award to recognize those students who have excelled in the classroom as well as in athletic competition. Individuals are selected for this award on the basis of their athletic ability and academic proficiency.
