Nine Carbon High School senior student-athletes have been recognized for their excellence in the classroom during the 2018 fall season with a selection to the Academic All-State team in their respective sport by the Utah High School Activities Association and the Deseret News.
Cross Country runners Emma Haddock, Regan Hanson and Britlie Sharp all earned the honor after succeeding both in competition and in the classroom. The three selections mark the most of any sport for Carbon High School in the fall season.
Parker Humes was the lone selection from Carbon on the Cross Country boys team. Humes joins a list of 13 total boys who achieved academic excellence in the sport.
Elley Cowdell and Ronni Williams are two of 11 girl soccer players to receive the All-State nod. Cowdell and Williams helped Carbon qualify for the state championship tournament after the team ended third in Region 14.
Tennis players Jewlianna Nielsen and Sherisse Pendleton are two of 19 girls named to the Academic All-State list. Girl’s Tennis marked the the largest group of all-staters from any of the 3A fall sports.
Football player McKade Bradley is one of 11 named to the 3A Football Academic All-State squad. Bradley, a senior captain for Carbon, was a key member of the offensive unit playing center throughout the season. The 2018 campaign produced the most region wins Carbon has recorded since 2000.
For over 25 years the UHSAA has presented the Academic All-State Award to recognize those students who have excelled in the classroom as well as in athletic competition. Individuals are selected for this award on the basis of their athletic ability and academic proficiency.
