The Emery Spartans suffered a 39-36 loss to the Union Cougars in the wrestling season opener Wednesday night at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.
Despite a sizzling start to the varsity meet with four straight wins in the lower weight classes, Emery faltered late in the eventual nine points loss. A total of five individuals finished out the meet with a win on the varsity mat.
With the season now underway the Spartans will turn its attention to the Salem Hills weekend tournament on Friday and Saturday. The next home meet will take place Wednesday, Dec. 5 against North Sevier.
