PRICE – Utah State Eastern men’s basketball defeated the Everett Community College Trojans 90-70 on Thursday in Ontario, Oregon.
Thursday win was the first of three games in three days at the TVCC Holiday Classic.
In the first half the Eagles built a double-digit lead off a strong shooting performance from deep.
“I think that we shot well as a team. We had some open shots because we were executing our offense and we had guys shooting open shots with confidence,” said USU Eastern Head Coach Vando Becheli.
The Eagles finished the game shooting 41% from behind the three-point line.
Freshman guard Blaze Nield made five three-pointers in the game and was the leading scorer with 31 points. He also had five rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block against the Trojans.
Sophomore forward Ognjen Pantovic put up another double-double on Thursday with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Even though those two had strong performances, Becheli said that it was a solid effort from the whole team.
“Honestly, this was a definition of a team win. We had different players at different times that took the game over and helped us win tonight,” said Becheli.
The Eagles now have a 6-3 overall record and snap a two-game losing skid.
They will take on Yakima Valley tomorrow night at 6 p.m. in Ontario.
