This week’s Carbon School District weekly update is focused on all the happenings taking place at Creekview Elementary. The PTA President, Hayley Atwood was gracious enough to swing by Castle Country Radio Stations to share the latest news with the community.
On Monday, December 17 a movie night fundraising event will take place at the school. This is the second time this type of event has been held it proved to be a huge success in the past for students and their families. “So, we’re going to be playing Santa Claus 3 and we’ve got the special visitor himself coming at 6:00 pm with the movie started at 6:30 pm,” explained Atwood. The cost to attend is $1.00 per person with all of the proceeds staying at the school to assist with the school’s field trips and to purchase trinkets to be used as student incentives.
Santa’s Workshop will be opening soon for children to purchase an affordable gift for a loved one. “So our focus for this was really to get the kids to in the mode of thinking of somebody else around the holidays and focus on giving and how it feels just as good to give as it fell to get sometimes,” said Atwood. They will make the gift in the workshop, design a greeting card and wrap their gift all for free.
Upon returning back to school after the Christmas break students will be hosting their annual food drive. “We are going to start collecting cans of food for the local food bank of course and it’s really fun, you know we’re a STEM School now so we try to really focus on utilizing stuff in different ways and thinking outside the box,” stated Atwood. The kindergarten students will take the cans to talk about weight, similarities in the cans, while other students will stack the cans to make different structures.
There are some important dates for students and parents to be sure to remember. “So in January on the Friday mornings we will on January 11 have Moms and Muffins and the next one is the 18th and that’s Dads and Donuts,” stated Atwood. This is free and gives parents/guardians a chance to read with their students before the beginning of school.
