The wins continue to pile up for the Emery Lady Spartans, who moved to 8-0 with a 72-40 win over the Payson Lions Tuesday evening in Castle Dale.
Exploding offensively out of the gate, the Lady Spartans outscored Payson 22-6 in the opening quarter. The domination continued throughout the second period as Emery extended its lead to 47-19 at the break.
Senior Bailey Huggard delivered her best offensive performance of the season by scoring 18 points. Huggard proved to be a force defensively as well by recording six steals and crashing the glass for four rebounds.
Megan Jensen tallied 12 points in eight rebounds as she continued her consistent senior campaign. Kacelyn Toomer finished with 11 points, Bethany Justice chipped in with nine. Kinlee Toomer stuffed the stat sheet with six points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Payson’s Addison Taylor led the way for the Lions in the loss with 12 points. Bailey Tyler scored seven and Renzello scored six.
With only one game remaining before the Christmas break, the Lady Spartans will return to the court on Friday for a home tilt with North Summit at home. The season will then resume on January 2 with a home contest against South Sevier to open Region 15 play.
