Carbon High Christmas have been very busy gathering donations from community members since the end of November to meet their goal of $36,000.00 this year. The gifts and monetary contributions have come through various activities that the Student Body has held for their own students and out within the community.

“So every year we just try to come up with something new, something fun so the students don’t get worn out of the same things and try to get them involved and the community, so we have community events as well,” said Student Body Officer, Breanna Moosman “This year we had our Bunco and Chili Cookoff, some of the few things we had at the high school was Carbon’s Got Talent and just caroling and Odd Jobs that we do every year that we enjoy.” Students would gather in front of Lin’s Fresh Market and Walmart in the evenings to do their annual caroling as they gathered monetary donations from customers coming and going from the business. The Odd Jobs is a tradition when it comes to Carbon Christmas, this is where students would go around to homeowners seeking odd jobs like cleaning the yard, shoveling snow, washing dishes, taking the garbage out, whatever the homeowner needs and they, in turn, would pay for said services.

There are no big events scheduled as this is the final week and one last push effort so you will find students caroling and making their way around neighborhoods seeking last-minute Odd Jobs. On Thursday, December 20 there will be an assembly healed for the entire school to find out how much was earned this year. Moosman explains the atmosphere of the big reveal, “It’s so emotional, everybody is drained and exhausted but when we see those numbers and we get to see and realize how many families we actually helped it’s just so heartwarming and heartfelt; everybody is student government is crying, our advisors are even the high school students are crying. It’s a good cry of course.” All of the toys and funds earned will assist families that registered with United Way of Eastern Utah’s Angel Tree program.

Community members who wish to make one last donation to the cause may do so by calling the school at 637-2463.
