The true meaning of Christmas will be evident at the Annual Carbon County Community Cares Christmas Dinner. This free event will be held on Christmas Day from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm inside the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center on the campus of USU-Eastern.

“Community Cares is a group of people who got together a number of years ago and decided that the community needed a Christmas dinner, something for people that are elderly or alone or just needy and we wanted to do a Christmas dinner for them,” said Board Member, Pam Cha. Over the last few years, the organization has served almost 300 individuals each year with a delicious Christmas dinner with all the fixings. Guests can look forward to some great fellowship, festive musical entertainment and receive a small gift.

Shuttle services are available upon request for areas of Helper, Kenilworth, Carbonville, Wellington and Price. Organizers will not be able to offer shuttle services to East Carbon but will make meal deliveries to those individuals and anyone that may be homebound, alone and/or unable to leave their home.

Volunteers are not needed at this time but organizers will not turn away those who would like to help. The organization is still seeking monetary donations to assist with the preparation and operating costs of the event. “Our average cost is about $5.00 a person, to feed a person and provide everything. So, what we’ve done is at the PO Box, its PO Box 255 in Price, Utah and we actually accept donation there. We accept any donation at all, anything that helps because we donate but we have to pay for the goods and the services so we need donations if at all possible,” stated Cha. For those that would like to make arrangements for shuttle services, food delivery or to share information on someone that could benefit from this community dinner may contact 820-6628. Christmas is a time for togetherness and celebration, so no one should be alone on this holiday.
