Officials at USU Extension in both Carbon and Emery Counties would like to invite residents to take part in their annual Master Gardener Program. The ten-week course is set to begin January 24 and run through till March 28.  This is a ten-week course that will be held every Thursday evening beginning at 6:30 pm till 8:30 pm with some classes alternating between the Carbon and Emery Extension offices.

“This is a program that goes with Carbon and Emery counties, it’s taught in both counties, they alternate, it’s a program for home gardening enthusiasts. So basically, we provide unbiased researched based horticulture education for people that love home gardening,” stated Agriculture Assistant Professor, Steve Price. This is a long-running program that is offered each year to residents who are seeking ways to improve their gardening skills by learning pests/pesticide safety, plant science, soil science, fertilizer, irrigation design/implementation, plant pathology (disease), weeds, diagnosing plant problems which are a few of the topics that will be covered during this session.

There will be Extension Specialists that will be guest speakers throughout the program. “Especially for some of the higher end topics where we have university faculty that they truly are the experts in that field. They come down, they present, they speak and they can give us some real in-depth knowledge that you wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else,” stated Price. The cost for the course is $50.00 for one year or $80.00 for two years of classes. This fee includes a Utah Master Gardener Manual, handouts and light refreshments for every class. A few classes will be held on Saturdays but advanced notice will be given to students.
