The Carbon Dinos faced Juab on Wednesday night and came away with the one point victory 59-58.
Even though Juab had their chances to win in the final moments of the fourth quarter Carbon held on to go 6-12 and 3-5 in region 14 with just four games left before the start of tournament play.
Carbon had a strong showing from senior Derek Hillam with 28 points and six rebounds and also went a perfect six-of-six from the foul line. Senior Ty Anderson added 13 points five assists and four steals in a well balanced effort, and senior Collin Lewis added eight points to go with his seven rebounds while going two-of three from behind the arc. The Dinos played a well balanced game putting behind them their third quarter woes, they led by only three points after the first quarter but put forth an outstanding effort to bring home the win down the stretch.
Juab (9-9, 6-2 in region) are in second place in region 14 were led by senior Easton Wright with 15 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Ty Allred dropped 14 points and nine rebound and junior Zac Cowan added 13 points in the loss.
Carbon now gets a day off to prepare for region leading Providence Hall the comes in with a perfect 7-0 region record and 13-3 overall. The two teams have already met once this season back on December 14 in Herriman on a night that saw Hillam go for 23 points and 12 rebounds in a 62-51 loss. Game time is set for 7 pm.
