Cade Brazier poured in a game-high 27 points to lead the Emery Spartans past the South Sevier Rams 64-59 Wednesday night at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.

Looking to avenge a loss to the Rams back on Dec. 21, the Spartans led throughout the entire second half. A late South Sevier rally fell short as Emery converted on several timely free throws.

“On Monday and Tuesday we focused mainly on defense, our legs are definitely feeling it tonight but its good for us,” said Brazier following the win. “I think if we just get after it on defense like we did tonight it helps us more on offense and we play with confidence.”

Opening the game on an 8-1 run the Spartans trailed 12-8 at the end of the opening quarter. Emery outscored South Sevier by seven in the second to carry a 29-26 lead into the break. The advantage grew to double figures in the third quarter.

Kyson Stilson finished with 18 points to help push the Emery offense. Brax Jensen added eight and Brodie Tuttle finished with five. As a team the Spartans connected on 11 three-point shots, eight of which came from Brazier.

Kaetz King overcame a slow start from the field to score a team-high 24 points for South Sevier as the Rams dipped to 5-2 in Region 15 play. Brandt Williams scored 15, while Peydon Wood and Tyson Chisholm both contributed eight.

Following Wednesday’s games the Spartans now trail South Sevier and Richfield by just one game for the top spot in the Region 15 standings. Emery will have an opportunity to draw even with Richfield Friday as the two teams meet for the second and final time this season.

“We know its going to be tough because it always is there,” said Brazier. “We have to play tough defense again and just see how it goes.”

Live coverage of Friday’s tilt will begin with the Landon’s Diesel Service Pre-Game Show on KOAL 107.3 FM and 750 AM at 6:30 p.m.. Tip-off will follow shortly after at 7:00.
