The Carbon Lady Dinos used five first place finishes to win the Region 14 championship swim meet Thursday afternoon at the Clyde Recreation Center in Springville.

Accumulating 538 points, the Lady Dinos easily defeated the Millard Eagles who finished second with 324 points. Union came in third, followed by Maeser Prep and American Leadership Academy. Altamont, Delta and Beaver rounded out the field of eight.

Millard claimed the top spot on the boy’s side of the pool with a final total of 378 points. Union finished in second with 323 points, followed by Delta with 246.5. Carbon managed a top five finish coming in fourth, just ahead of Telos. ALA, Maeser Prep and Altamont completed the field.

The Lady Dinos started the meet with a first place finish in the 200 yard medley relay as Emily Jespersen, Nicole Swasey, Sofia Crompton and Tyrca Jaramillo finished in 2:05.39. Later in the meet Jesperson teamed up with Kacee Barrett, Thalyn Lyman and Megan Swasey to record a first place nod in the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Jaramillo defeated teammate Nicole Swasey to earn the top finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:17.50. Jaramillo also finished second in the 200 yard IM, again topping Swasey who finished third.

Sofia Crompton ended at the top of the 100 yard butterfly leader board, ending with a time of 1:10.24. Crompton also joined Barrett, Lyman and Megan Swasey for the top finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

While the Carbon boy’s team did not end first in any individual event, several swimmers managed to finish within the scoring ranks to help the team finish inside the top five overall.

Carbon will now have the next week off to prepare for the 3A State Championship on Feb. 7 at Brigham Young University in Provo.
