The Emery Spartans claimed the Region 15 championship as both the boys and girls dominated the competition at the regular season finale Thursday afternoon in Castle Dale.
Gathering 288.5 points, the two-time defending state champion boy’s team topped second place Grand who finished 261 points. Richfield finished in third, followed by Wasatch Academy and Gunnison. North Sanpete, South Sevier and North Sevier completed the field of eight.
The Emery Lady Spartans easily outpointed the field after scoring 435 points, compared to second place Richfield’s 248. Grand ended in third with 130, followed by North Sanpete and Gunnison. Wasatch Academy and South Sevier rounded out the field of seven.
Keldon Guymon notched two individual first place finishes, winning the 100 yard fly and the 50 yard free. Guymon’s dominance carried over to the relay events, as he helped his team to two more first place nods.
Deegan Minchey, Asher Beagley, Parker Stilson and Guymon finished the 200 yard medley in first with a time 1:47.09. The group of four added a second relay win in the 400 yard free with a time of 3:32.27.
Minchey and Stilson also delivered a first and second place finish in the 100 yard backstroke, ending with times of 1:01.34 and 1:05.68 respectively.
Haley Guymon posted two individual wins for the Lady Spartans, claiming the top spot in the 200 yard IM and the 100 yard breaststroke. Guymon finished the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:28.94 and the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:13.17.
Alexis Johansen earned an individual win, finishing the 500 yard free with a time of 6:13.80. Kaelee Hooley finished at the top of 100 yard fly, topping teammates Sydney Terwilleger and BriAnne Bass with a time of 1:09.21.
Terwilleger, Hooley, Guymon and Johansen teamed up to win the 200 yard medley with a time of 2:00.24.
With the Region 15 championship now complete, the Spartans will turn their focus to the State Championship Meet on Feb. 7 at Brigham Young University.
