The Emery Lady Spartans moved to 17-0 on the season with a 69-51 victory over the Richfield Wildcats Thursday evening at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.
Using stiff defense right out of the gate the Lady Spartans developed a comfortable 36-15 lead at the end of the first half. Richfield managed to outscore Emery in the final two quarters, but could not make a dent in the hefty half time deficit.
Kacelyn Toomer poured in a game-high 23 points to lead Emery to a season sweep over Richfield. Megan Jensen contributed 15 points and Kinlee Toomer finished with 12.
As a team Emery converted 27 field goals compared to just 12 for the Wildcats. Foul shots played a minimal role as a total of 14 were attempted between the two teams.
Alexa Lord scored a team best 17 points for Richfield as the team’s five game-winning streak was snapped. Jarica Steck added 15 points and Jacee Albrecht scored 10.
With only four games remaining on the regular season slate, the Lady Spartans are two wins away from clinching the Region 15 Championship. Now 8-0 in division play, the team will return to the court on Tuesday for a second meeting with the Manti Templars.
