The Dinos boys basketball team dropped their home contest to Providence Hall on Friday night. Carbon jumped out to a 10 point lead after the first quarter but then went cold in the second and third quarters scoring a combined 12 points, their struggles continued coming out of the half, in their last five games Carbon has been out scored 73-51 in the third quarter.
Providence Hall was led by Marcus Sherwood with 23 points and nine rebounds and Dallin Dodge with 12 points and seven boards. Providence Hall remains unbeaten in Region 14 play and 14-3 over all.
Carbon was once again led by senior Derek Hillam with 18 points and six rebounds and Kaleb Nelson added nine points and five rebounds. On a night which saw the Dinos shoot 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Carbon could never recover from the dismal shooting in the middle quarters as they fell further behind and trailed 42-29 headed to the fourth.
The Dinos are now sitting at 6-13 and 3-6 in region play. It has definitely been an up and down season but there is still a lot of basketball left to be played. They have three games left, all on the road up first is Maeser Prep (6-12, 1-7 in region). When they first met back on January 4th the Dinos came away with the victory 58-49, Brady Gagon led the team that night with 18 points. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm on Wednesday January 30th.
