This week’s Carbon School District weekly update shines a light on Bruin Point Elementary where Principal Dina Wise stopped by the Castle Country Radio Stations to share what her students have been up to.

“We had the spelling bee at Bruin Point. We had 18 students that competed, fourth and fifth graders and we narrowed that down to three, Getman Howell, Nadia Snyder and Hayden Hunt and they will be competing at the district level at Mont Harmon on February 21,” explained Principal Wise. This year more students participated than in past years so it was exciting to get more students involved in the competition this year.

In conjunction with February’s Kindness Month student body officers have planned a fun activity for students to participate in. “So, our student council is sponsoring an activity where the kids are looking for kindness and reporting kindness. When they report kindness, they’re going to get a block to put on the tower of kindness. When our tower reaches four feet, we’re going to celebrate by having a school-wide popcorn party and just really emphasizing kindness this month,” stated Principal Wise. Students have been applying the skills they have learned from their school counselor about resolving conflict and showing empathy.

At the end of each week, there is fun that is sure to be had on Fantastic Friday’s as students are allowed to unwind from a busy week. “So on Fridays, we just try to…we’re just always grinding, we just have so much that we want our students to learn and we just want them to be the best they can be. But on Friday we turn on the music in the cafeteria in the morning – we’re all together, we blast the music when the kids are done with their breakfast they can dance behind their seats,” said Principal Wise. At lunchtime, students get to be entertained by one of the school’s paraprofessionals who tells an array of Dad Jokes that the students seem to enjoy tremendously.

Upcoming events for the school will be Parent/Teacher Conferences on February 19 and 20. Then in Mach around St Patrick’s Day, there will be a big Parent Night event held at the school. More information on both events will be sent home with students at a later date.
