The Carbon High School girl’s swim team completed a congratulations tour in front of the Carbon County Commissioners during the regular public meeting in the Commission Room at the Carbon County Administration building Wednesday afternoon.

Using a complete team effort, the Lady Dinos swim squad earned the school’s first ever state championship in February. Since bringing home the title the team has been honored by the Carbon County School District, Price City and now Carbon County.

“We have congratulation certificates made out to all of the girls on the team for winning state for the Carbon High swim team,” said Carbon County Commissioner Tony Martines, who was joined by fellow commissioners Casey Hopes and Larry Jensen. “We really appreciate your efforts, and keep up the good work.”

First year head coach Allison Chamberlain, along with assistant coach Chris Chamberlain, accepted the certificates on behalf of the team. Team members Logan Odendahl, Nicole Swasey, Tyrca Jaramillo and Alheli Pendleton were also in attendance. Many members of the team were unable to attend due to obligations through other spring sports.

At the state tournament senior Megan Swasey logged third place finishes in both the 50 yard free and 100 yard backstroke. Jaramillo gave Carbon another third place nod in the 100 yard breaststroke.

Megan Swasey, Thalyn Lyman, Sofia Crompton and Kacee Barrett added more points to the team’s total with a third place finish in the 200 yard free relay.

Jaramillo, Crompton, Emily Jespersen and Nicole Swasey also scored third place in the 200 yard medley, the first competition of the event.

“We didn’t have a single kid take first place, we just had a huge team that bonded together and brought home the gold,” said Chamberlain. “Swimming is different in the fact that it’s individual, but also team. They are pushed individually, but they come together as a team.”
