The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office is excited to announce a new opportunity to improve the community with the addition of a second trained and certificated drug service dog to the office. This announcement comes as a Sheriff’s Office Memo posted to the CCSO’s Facebook page.

“I feel that we can continue to make Carbon County and the surrounding area a safer place to live and raise a family,” said Sheriff Jeff Wood. At the end of training the K9’s will be able to assist officers in the following areas:

-location of drugs/narcotics in a vehicle

-building searches

-informational programs that help build community relations

Sheriff Jeff Wood continues by saying, “It is with the above in mind that we ask for your support. To make our dream of building our K9 unit a reality, we must first develop the necessary funds. With a goal of $7,000.00, I believe that it is important for the community to understand what their donations will fund.” In order for the CCSO to start another K9 program, they will first need to purchase a 2-year old K9, plus the necessary equipment for the dog, including the vehicle insert design for transport of a narcotic working dog.

Community members that wish to make a tax-deductible donation to the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office K9 Fund Program may do so at the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office located at 240 West Main Street in Price. If individuals have any questions about the development of the K9 unit they may contact Sheriff Jeff Wood via email at jeff.wood@carbon.utah.gov or call (435) 636-3251.

Last year Carbon County Sheriff Deputies made 144 in drug-related arrests and in the last two years, there have been 14 related drug deaths in the Carbon County area. The numbers would be significantly higher, but due to the availability of Narcan to patrol units the overdose rate as dropped. CCSO feels that the number would undoubtingly drop again with the addition of the K9 unit.
