Jared Butler has been named head coach of the Carbon High School boy’s basketball program. The hiring was announced by Athletic Director Ted Bianco Wednesday afternoon.

Butler, who has spent 15 years as a teacher at Carbon High School, has served as an assistant coach at Emery High School under Todd Jeffs for the past eight seasons. Prior to his time in Emery, Butler was a six year assistant for Bianco at Carbon.

“We are excited to have Jared as our new basketball coach,” said Bianco. “He’s been an assistant for many, many years, and he will bring a lot to our program. I think he has good energy, good attitude and many good ideas.”

A graduate of the class of 1991 at Emery High School, Butler played one season of junior college basketball in 1992, before serving an LDS mission. Butler currently teaches health and physical education at Carbon High School.

The announcement comes following the resignation of former head coach Kyle Wilson. After holding the position for three seasons, Wilson resigned at the completion of the 2018-19 campaign. During his time as head coach Wilson accumulated a record of 26-45, while also leading the team past the play-in round of the state tournament for the first time in nearly two decades.

“We were obviously sad to see coach Wilson step down after he did a fantastic job with our program,” said Bianco. “He is a fantastic man and we were sad to see him leave.”

Butler has yet to name his assistant coaches for the upcoming season. The interview process will begin shortly, with the official announcement of the additions to follow.
