Since the retirement of Debbe Kobe in December, a new director has been appointed for the Carbon County Senior Center and it was as simple as adding two new centers to the duties of Emery County Director, Robbie Jensen.

He explains how the addition of duties has went, “I was a little nervous to begin with, just a new staff wondering how a new director would be and the Price crew has been great, welcoming me very well and I think the transition has been as smooth as you can ask for, I’ve been very happy on that side of things.” It didn’t take long for Jensen to get into the swing of things and make sure the needs of the Carbon Senior Citizens were met.

Due to county budget restraints at the end of last year the Carbon County Senior Centers had to shorten its operational hours by only offering to be open four days a week. “Because we’ve lost those Fridays, we wanted to make sure that none of the activities that we’ve been doing on those Fridays were lost and so all of the activities that were happening on that Friday are still happening throughout the week there,” said Jensen. The nutritional side of things, Meals on Wheels program is still being offered on Fridays and on weekends for those qualifying individuals.

Emery Seniors will have an informative gathering taking place in April that they are sure to not want to miss. “We don’t have a set date right now for the but it is going to be happening in April it’s called Stepping On and it’s a fall prevention program for anyone that is at risk for a fall or has fallen in the last year. We go over a lot of different things – how to recover from a fall, things that cause falls to help you not to be at such a high risk for falls. So that is going to be happening in April. It’s a 10-12-week program, two to three hours once a week and so that is coming up,” explained Jensen. Interested and qualifying individuals may contact their Senior Center’s for further information and registration.

There are joint activities planned to take place quarterly for all the centers in both Carbon and Emery counties. A summer picnic is planned to take place in June at the Little Bear Campground in Emery County.  “I think there are a lot of opportunities for those joint-county activities going forward,” said Jensen. The Senior Centers services and activities are open to individuals age 60 and older with operational hours from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday. To find out about the scheduled activities taking place throughout the month be sure to grab a monthly newsletter at one of the Senior Center’s seven locations.
