PRICE – Utah State Eastern Men’s Basketball Coach Adjalma Becheli announces the signing of guard Christian Haffner.
The 6’1 guard spent the 2015-2016 season as a redshirt for Marquette University where he earned Big East All-Academic honors.
After his redshirt season at Marquette, Haffner served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Barcelona, Spain.
Haffner signed with the Eagles because of the coaching staff and the experience he had on a visit to campus last month.
“The coaching staff is amazing at USU Eastern and the campus is gorgeous. It fit me perfectly and I am exciting to come and play ball,” said Haffner
Haffner, a Gresham, Wisconsin native, was a four-year varsity letter winner at Gresham High and as a senior was named the Central Wisconsin Conference-10 Player of the Year. During his senior year he averaged 26.7 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game on his way to All-State honors.
After two years away, Haffner says he is itching to play collegiate basketball.
I hope to make an impact right away, I just want to help us win. After not playing basketball for two years, you just want it that much more.
“I really can’t put it into words how I excited I am to get back and play,”
USU Eastern Head Coach Adjalma Becheli is excited to bring in Haffner for his shooting skills and high character.
“Christian brings experience and maturity to our program. He is a great shooter that will help us stretch the floor well,” said Becheli.
USU Eastern completed the 2018-2019 season with a 17-15 overall record and finished in fourth in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
The 2019-2020 season will begin with official practices in October with the regular season starting in November.
