The Carbon Dinos wrapped up the 2019 regular season with a 6-1 loss to the Juab Wasps Friday afternoon at Ernie Gardner Field in Helper on Senior Day.
Looking to halt a three-game region losing skid, the Dinos held a 1-0 lead entering the second inning. Juab took a slight advantage by scoring in the next two frames, before blowing the game open with a three-run sixth inning.
Senior Nathan Richens was charged with the loss on the bump, allowing four hits and one earned run in 2.2 innings of work. Adrien Sanchez and Collin Lewis both also received work on the mound, combining to throw 4.1 innings of unearned run baseball.
Braxton Bennett finished 1-3 with a single and RBI. Anthony Jones and Ty Anderson recorded the other two hits for the Dinos, both of which were singles.
Thursday’s loss dips Carbon to 6-4 in Region 14 play, placing them third overall behind Union in the top heavy division. The win gives Juab a perfect region record and the No. 1 overall seed out of the league.
Carbon will now enter the double-elimination 3A State Championship Tournament, which will begin this Saturday in Richfield. Entering as the No. 3 seed from Region 14, the Dinos will square off with the No. 4 seed from Region 13.
