The Carbon Dinos allowed two second half goals which ultimately led to the end of the season in a 3-1 loss to the Grand Red Devils in the opening round of the 3A State Championship Tournament Wednesday afternoon in Moab.
Entering the tournament as the No. 5 seed from Region 14, the Dinos proved to be a game opponent for the Region 14 champion Red Devils.
Trailing 1-0 at the end of the first half, Carbon remained within striking distance. Early in the second stanza Noah Bradford delivered an equalizer as the Dinos applied pressure to the Red Devils.
Following Bradford’s goal the Red Devils took complete control as Nolan Ramirez found the back of the net twice, giving him the hat trick in the Grand win.
A total of five teams represented Region 14 in the State Tournament. After the first day of competition, only two remain. Carbon, Providence Hall, and Delta all suffered losses, while American Leadership and Maeser Prep secured wins.
The loss brings the soccer season to a close for the Dinos, ending the team’s overall record at 4-12-2. After dropping the first six games of the season, Carbon improved to play near the .500 level throughout the remainder of the season.
