Unable to climb out of an early deficit, the Carbon Dinos completed the regular season with a 7-0 loss to the 4A Salem Hills Skyhawks Wednesday afternoon in Helper.

Held to just four hits throughout the contest, the Dinos were unable to plate a run in the exhibition contest. Salem Hills on the other hand registered 14 hits, and jumped out to a 4-0 lead by end the of the second inning.

As a team Carbon used seven pitchers, throwing one each inning in the regular season finale. Braxton Bennett was charged with the loss, allowing three hits and two earned runs in the top of the first.

Keaton Rich, Kaleb Nelson and Adrien Sanchez all managed to keep Salem Hills off of the scoreboard in relief efforts.

Senior Ty Anderson finished 2-4 in the box with two singles. Collin Lewis and Nelson each recorded one single to round out the hits for the Dinos.

Wednesday’s loss brings Carbon’s final regular season record to 8-13, which includes a 6-4 mark in division play. The team has now lost six of it’s last seven outings, with the one win coming over Emery in a rivalry matchup.

The Dinos will now shift their focus to the opening round of the 3A State Tournament, which begins this Saturday in Richfield. Entering as the No. 3 seed from Region 14, Carbon will first meet Morgan at 9:00 a.m..

Depending on the outcome of the first contest, Carbon will then meet either Richfield or Delta later in the afternoon. The 3A State Tournament is held in true double-elimination form. The final stage will take place May 9-11.
