There is a new phone scam that is taking place around the Castle Country area that is claiming to help fallen officers. Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood took time on his Castle Country Radio weekly update to inform residents to be aware of the phone scam that is targeting individuals using a charitable organization.

“A telephone scam saying they’re collecting money for a fallen officer. It’s a 100 percent scam, don’t buy off on that. Generally, those types of deals, if there is a fallen officer and they’re raising money for that it would be through a financial institution, it wouldn’t be sending a check to some obscure address somewhere,” said Sheriff Wood. If citizens get this phone call and feel it is a legitimate cause please contact your law enforcement officials to verify its legitimacy. It’s unfortunate that scammers will use such tactics to gain access to money from caring individuals.

Speaking of phone calls, the CCSO has been notified by concerned citizens that have observed speeding in the Liberty Estates Subdivision area. “Liberty Estates is kind of out of the way, out of sight, out of mind and the road that leads into is where people are speeding up over the hill. So, we’re going to be up in that area kind of keeping an eye on stuff. We don’t want to have to put up a three-way stop sign or something on that street we’d rather just get everyone aware that is a 25 zone and to slow down, there are kids riding bikes and things there,” stated Sheriff Wood. This is an official warning to residents traveling on the road to be aware the law enforcement will be beefing up patrols in that area. Warmer months mean more individuals are outside enjoying the weather so drivers need to be alert when traveling through any residential areas.
