Price City would like to remind citizens of the Memorial Day graveyard cleaning and decoration guidelines. Community members who wish to start decorating for the Memorial Day holiday may start to do so on May 24.

“Usually the Friday before Memorial Day and in this case, it’s going to be May 24 all of our west entrances along Veteran’s Lane will be completely closed off by 1:00 pm and this is on May 24,” said Parks & Cemetery Supervisor, Brianna Welch. “So, a lot of the people park along Veteran’s Lane and the south-north side of the cemetery. All of the other entrances the north and the south are always open ok. Then Saturday morning the north and south, as well as the gates on Veteran’s Lane will be completely closed off so there isn’t any vehicle access and we do this for safety reason.” The Parks and Cemetery Department will be available with a shuttle service for those individuals that really need to utilize that amenity while visiting the Price City Cemetery.  The entrance gate at the Cliffview Cemetery will not be closed to traffic.

On the morning of May 27 there will be a military service scheduled to take place. “The American Legion and the other military they do a dedication at the Cliffview Cemetery or the Price City Cemetery on that Monday. The main cemetery starts at 10:00 am and this is on Memorial Day Monday at the Price City Cemetery then they go up to Cliffview at 10:45 am and do a flag dedication there,” explained Welch. All community members are welcomed to attend this gathering at either cemetery location. The Price City Main Cemetery is located at 595 East 400 North and Cliffview Cemetery is located at 1800 East 800 North.

One week after Memorial Day residents are urged to clear their loved one’s gravesites before city officials conduct the cleanup process. “Part of the cleanup is organizing my staff, giving them instructions on what to remove and what not to remove. What we like to see the public do is the week after the Memorial Day Monday have them go in and get everything that they want cleared off the grave so that the employees can go in there get everything cleaned off and we can get right to mowing,” stated Welch. All live flowers and decoration left on graves, including Shepherd’s hooks and solar lights will be discarded. City officials urge citizens to remove all decorations prior to the clean-up date to avoid any misunderstandings.
