On May 15, 120 students from Emery High School’s Emergency Medical Responder class were able to participate in an active shooter exercise with Emery County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) and Emery County EMS on Wednesday morning.
School administration placed the school on lockdown during the exercise. First responders tested team response and communications as they neutralized the threat and secured the school as quickly as possible. EMS personnel were then able to enter the school and begin providing medical care to the victims.
EHS administration also used this exercise as their first test of a new reunification program. New legislation requires schools to have a reunification plan in place by next year to reunite students with their parents following a school emergency.
ECSO appreciates the cooperation of the Emery School District which allows first responders to train as realistically as possible for threats against our schools.
