Castle Country Radio Station 18th Annual Pie Auction is ready for another eventful and successful year on Wednesday, June 12 at 9:00 am on KARB Kickin’ Country FM 98.3 and 106.7. The yearly event has proven over the years to garner large amounts of funds to help those fighting cancer in the local area.

“Last year we raised $18,000.00 which was great because it was 2018 and we raised $18,000.00 so it would be great if we could raise $19,000.00 this year since it’s 2019,” said Office Manager, Ann Anderson. “We were adding up the numbers and we were like if we could just get this much more than we will hit $18,000.00 and man, the businesses and individuals in this area they opened their pocketbooks up and they did not let us down.”  The yearly event only features 50 pies to auction off due to the short amount of on-air time for the auction so approximately seven to nine minutes is spent on each pie for bidders to place their winning bid. All pies that are purchased from the auction may be counted towards a tax deduction for customers 2019 income taxes.

Each year has proven to entertain listeners through the various callers having friendly banter over certain pies. “We have a couple of businesses and every year they’re bidding wars going back and forth on certain pies that they want and so it’s a lot of fun,” said Anderson. The pies are supplied by local residents, business leaders and dignitaries and are bundled along with other items such as concert tickets, museum passes, gift certificates and gift baskets.

The Pie Auction funds are allocated two ways, first, through the $100.00 Fuel Card program which is opened to residents in Carbon, Emery, Grand counties who are needing to travel for cancer treatment appointments and secondly, through the Thomas B Anderson college scholarship, which is a $2,500.00 scholarship that is awarded to a deserving student of either Carbon, Emery or Grand counties that has or had cancer to further their education.

The radio station looks forward to this event every year and its success could not be possible without the generosity from the entire community.
