The Annual Castle Country Radio Pie Auction took over the radio waves on KARB Kickin Country 98.3 FM. This year featured a wide array of delicious pies, special guests and community members making generous bids.

The morning kicked off at 9:00 am with KARB’s Morning Host, Big Dave, radio station owner, Paul Anderson and special guest Price City Mayor Michael Kourianos. The trio spoke about the importance of the annual radio auction and how it benefits local residents fighting cancer in our area. The funds earned stay local to assist residents in Carbon, Emery and Grand Counties that must travel to receive cancer treatments with $100.00 fuel cards, as well as towards the Thomas B Anderson scholarship fund that helps a student in either Carbon or Emery county who has had or has cancer to further their education.

Late in the morning, a quick visit was made by American Cancer Society Director, Cidne Christensen. She took time to speak on-air to point out how impressed she was with the event in how the community steps up to assist those in need each year. Any individuals needing assistance can contact the American Cancer Society at (800) 227-2345.

It was late in the afternoon before pies picked up in the amount of bids being made. The pie was a Lemon Blackberry pie in a cast iron skillet that was bundled with concert tickets and other items that got the attention of bidders to start ringing the phones off the hook. It was after Ann Anderson, Radio Station Office Manager who threw in an additional set of concert tickets that got the winning bid up to $600.00 which was made by Barbara McCourt.

A special afternoon guest, Vikki Ori stopped in to share her own personal story of how the fuel program helped her during her time of treatments. She then turned around and made a $100.00 donation towards the cause which in turn will be a fuel card for another individual that is in need. It’s heartfelt stories like this that guests came in to share on-air and is the reason that the auction is held every year. Other special guests included Mona Williams, Norella Pilling, Dave Cunningham, Barbara Piccolo, Judi Bishop, Diana Bettino, Richard Tatton and Shirley Stubbs.

The highest bidding pie was donated by KARB Kickin Country it was a Sea Salt Carmel Apple Pie that was bundled with several concert tickets, admission and camping passes to Country Fan Fest in Tooele. During the last hour of the auction Radio Station Owner, Paul Anderson threw in a $500.00 advertising package and NASCAR tickets to sweeten the deal. A special guest came into help with the final pie, Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood, who was challenging the top bidders to bid more and he did his part to increase the package by donating 10 Carbon County Rescue Demolition Derby tickets and a commemorative coin. The bidding went on for a few hours until the closing of the auction where the pie was finally sold for $2,700.00 to Carbon Emery RV.

In closing out the auction, Paul and Ann Anderson both took to the microphone to thank the many volunteers, businesses and dignitaries for participating in another successful Pie Auction by helping to raise roughly $12,030.00 this year. It’s through the generosity of the entire community that made this event possible.
