The Carbon County Search and Rescue Demolition Derby is fast approaching and so is the half-price registration fee deadline. Currently, drivers have until June 28 to register a vehicle for $25.00 before the entry fee goes up $50.00 per vehicle. Drivers can register for the Demolition Derby being held on August 10 at Tire King located at 535 East Main Street in Price.

“This year’s derby is going to be awesome. Last years was great, we had a little over 40 cars – I want to say; we’re shooting for 50 this year,” stated Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood. “Plus, we know the derby it’s our big fundraiser for Search and Rescue for the year and so we want to be able to have the equipment and the personnel we need to go out and do the searches and this is how we get it.” Members of the Search and Rescue team are on a volunteer basis and donate their personal time to aid people who are in distress or imminent danger. The team relies on the proceeds each year that are made from the derby to contribute towards their expenses.

This year the sheriff would like to try something new and threw out a challenge for any female drivers. “So there is a Mini Class, it’s an easy class to get into, it’s an easy class to build a car for, so I’ve thrown a challenge out to the ladies out there, if you want to do a Powder Puff Heat enter into that class, lets get a Powder Puff Heat. I need six cars entered to be a heat and the top three out of that will go into the main event,” explained Sheriff Wood. Female drivers who wish to compete in other classes will not be required to enter into the Powder Puff Heat.

Drivers are encouraged to get registered quickly in order to take advantage of the half-price entry fee.  Tire King is taking care of the derby registration so stop by their location of 535 East Main Street to ask any questions, register and to obtain a copy of the derby rules.
