The Fourth of July is quickly approaching and with that comes fireworks which can be quite scary for pets. Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood again wanted to remind pet owners to take extra care of their pets during this type of holiday.
“I love the fireworks, one of my favorite things to see are the fireworks, however, make sure that you think of your pets. Make sure that you have your pets in a safe place for the fireworks a lot of times they panic – they don’t see fireworks like we do they look at them as something very bad,” explained Sheriff Wood. It’s this time of year that the local animal shelter becomes full with occupants as there are many pets that tend to run away during this time of year. Protect yourself and your pet by making sure they have proper identification, bring them in while fireworks are being lit off, put them in the kennel with a blanket draped over it to help soothe them. Extra special care during this time will help to keep pets safe.
There are many activities taking place this week and the Sheriff wants individuals to be careful while enjoying the Fourth of July holiday. “Be safe. You know with the wet winter we’ve had there’s are a lot of dry weeds that have grown up now, make sure that you take that into consideration if you’re shooting off aerial fireworks, make sure you’re shooting them in a safe direction, with adult supervision and a water source nearby, just be safe let’s not have an incident for the Fourth of July. It’s a fun time, family and barbeques – let’s keep it that way,” stated Sheriff Wood. There will be a law enforcement presence at most of the events so be sure to say hello to the officers as they work at the various events throughout the county.
The Carbon County Search and Rescue Demolition Derby is a month away and there is still time to get registered for this exciting event. “Derby will be August 10, I’m so excited. We have 29 cars signed up as of yesterday and there’s still more being built, I know, I’m shooting for 50. Tire King is the place to go for your rules, get signed up, the board is there – you can see who’s on it. It’s going to be a lot of fun, we’re looking forward to a great show this year,” said Sheriff Jeff Wood. Members of the Search and Rescue team are on a volunteer basis and donate their personal time to aid people who are in distress or imminent danger. The team relies on the proceeds each year that are made from the derby to contribute towards their expenses.
