It’s that time of year to eat, drink and dance at the annual Greek Festival on Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13 from 11:00 am to 11:30 pm. This extraordinary event will take place at the historic Assumption Greek Orthodox Church located at 61 South 200 East in Price.
“At 11:00 am our food lines will open up – like we have the past several years we’ll have two food lines the main one that will have all of our items, and if you go into the basement of our church where our pastries sales are we will have a to-go line that will have most of our more popular main dish and side dishes for the people who only have a 30 minute or an hour lunch break,” said Chairman Chris Vlamakis. The to-go line in the basement will only run through till 1:00 pm as to accommodate the lunch rush. Guests can enjoy food items such as kourambiethes, finikia, baklava, koulouakia, Greek bread and much, much more. All items have been carefully prepared by members of the church.
Live entertainment will begin at 1:00 pm with a group from Holy Trinity Church, as well as from the Prophet Alias both from the Salt Lake City area. “Then we also have the Opa Dancers, they are a junior high-middle school range age group that will be alternating. I think there is a performance of them every two hours starting at 1:00 pm on Friday then at noon on Saturday,” stated Vlamakis. The performances are a crowd favorite each year and the public are sometimes invited up to dance as well. Any individuals who may not make the festival over the weekend are invited to Price City’s Culture Connection on Thursday, July 11 at 7:00 pm to see the Dionysios Dancers perform for the evening’s outdoor concert series.
“On Friday we will have church tours at 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm on both days and then we will have one evening church tour at 7:00 pm on Saturday,” explained Vlamakis. An announcement will be made during the festival to get individuals to congregate on the steps of the church before the beginning of the tour.
This year the annual Greek Fest 5K Torch Run will kick the festival off on Thursday, July 11, the cost is $15.00 per person and $25.00 per family. Check-in time will be 8:00 pm at the Price City Peace Gardens and the race will end at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. For more information contact Carbon Recreation at (435) 636-3702.
