The Carbon County Chamber of Commerce has a busy schedule for the month of August with the Snap Shot Passport party, Tavaputs Ranch retreat and a community discussion.
First on the agenda is the end of the year Snap Shot Passport Party on August 14 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Pioneer Park in Price. “Bring your family down have dinner on us, we’ll do hotdogs, chips, drinks – we’ll have all that for you. But we’re also doing a slip and slide down Pioneer Park, we’ll have bounce houses, we’re just going to have a bunch of things for kids to do,” said Executive Chamber Director, Deserae Stevenson. The Snap Shot Passport was distributed to all the elementary and middle schools in mid-May. The passport booklet was designed to give students the opportunity over the summer to learn about the different businesses and services in the local area. The students were required to visit and complete an activity at the participating businesses before they could get a stamp in their passport. Students are asked to bring their completed passports to the party so that they may be entered into a drawing for some amazing prizes like tickets to a Salt Lake City Bee’s baseball game and to Hogle Zoo, plus swimming passes and much more.
On Saturday, August 17 there will be a combined Carbon and Emery Chamber retreat held at Tavaputs Ranch from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. There will be a guest speaker scheduled for the event. “Once we get up there, we are going to have a trainer, her name is Heidi Walker, she’s with the Salt Lake Chamber. She’s going to go over any questions that people might have about chambers, what we’re supposed to be doing, and what we’re doing and how we can improve on it and/or to educate people on what a chamber is,” said Stevenson. The cost to attend is $30.00 per Carbon/Emery Chamber Member and $50.00, non-Chamber Member. Individuals who attend the retreat will meet the morning of at the Carbon County Administration Building to carpool with other individuals as you must have a four-wheel-drive vehicle to make it up to the Tavaputs Ranch. If you would like to provide or need transportation to and from the retreat contact Stevenson at (435) 637-2788.
The final event of the month will be the Inland Port Discussion taking place on August 20 at 1:00 pm at The Tuscan Event Center on 100 North 67 West in Price. The discussion will be conducted by Derek Miller, present and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber and Downtown Alliance. “They’re going to come down here to talk about the Inland Port means for our area because they’ll have satellite locations that they can use. So it’s just going to discuss what it is and how that can affect our community if they choose to look at our location as an area for one of those. So nothing has been set in stone about this it’s just to come down and talk about the pros and cons of it all,” stated Stevenson. The guest speaker has been working on the concept of an inland port in Utah for years since his time a World Trade Center Utah and as co-chair of the Inland Port Exploratory Committee. The entire community is invited to attend this event.
