The Carbon High Marching Band had a busy summer of performances in many local parades and they even made an appearance at the Days of ’47 Parade in Salt Lake City. But it’s now time to start another school year of entertaining fans at high school athletic games and participating in statewide competitions.

They are currently hosting a fundraiser to help them fund various expenditures like equipment and props for the season’s field show. “Going on right now, of course, we always welcome donations if anyone ever wants to donate to the program we gladly accept, it just helps us reach our goals and where we want to go. Currently, we are working on a t-shirt sale, we had this idea to design a t-shirt for any type of Carbon High School event, in fact, we called it a Game Day t-shirt,” said Band Advisor, Chris Sweeny. The donation cost for the Game Day t-shirt is $20.00 each and must be purchased online at https://www.customink.com/fundraising/chs-band-fundraiser?fbclid=IwAR3tqvU_cqcZprRbGh1Hwh4ndhWJCLULixB2uTxRB1UZKiHuCyz2gRxg_DQ

The group is looking forward to competing this year against other 3A schools in the state with their new show entitled “Our Carbon County Home” which pays tribute to the blue-collar train and mining industry of our county. “Our field show this year, we actually at the very beginning we had this little idea that we liked we could do a unique, fun show that had to do with Carbon County and trains and coal mines and all that type of stuff. It just worked out that this year it’s the 125th anniversary of the founding of Carbon County and so we thought this was a good time to give this a shot,” stated Band Advisor Adam Cunningham. The show will feature various songs like I’ve Been Working On the Railroad, to Hard Day’s Night by the Beatles, to Blue Collar Man from Styx to a exclusive percussion piece entitled The Train.

The band started with 23 kids and now has topped at 75 kids. The band prides itself on providing a rewarding musical experience to all of its members. “They love performing in every parade, we do seven parades during our season as well as the competition shows so, especially Days of ’47 we just got back from doing that, what a great experience for these kids as people are yelling down the streets go Carbon, go Dinos – Carbon High is awesome,” stated Sweeny. The Marching Band consists of mostly freshman and sophomore students.
