The Utah State University Eastern men’s soccer team traveled to Gillette, WY August 22nd to play Gillette College. Unfortunately, it ended in a tied score of 0-0.

The Eagles started off with a rough bus ride the night before their competition. Neither team were able to score even though both took a decent amount of chances. “We ended with 21 shots and 11 on goal and weren’t able to put the game away, Gillette only got a few chances on us with their counter attacks but a few of them were good opportunities and they almost scored on one but we had a great save by freshman Djair Fariasthat saved the game,” said Head Coach Jared Woodhouse.

Unfortunately for the Eagles the game ended short due to bad weather. “By the time play could resume it was too dark to finish the game, so it ended in a draw but, we were knocking again on the door with the possibility to win,” said Woodhouse.

The Eagles hit the road again August 24th to play Sheridan College in Sheridan, WY. The Eagles were able to take the win on this one 2-0. “We again had more than 20 shots but this time we were able to get two of those to drop. Our focus this week will be on finishing those opportunities that we create and different ways of attacking to create more chances still,” said Woodhouse.

Our Eagles will take on Arizona Western College this Thursday in Henderson, NV. Arizona Western is a top 10-15 team, so this week’s game will be a challenge for our Eagles. “It will give us some indication of where we are as a team and how far we have to go to be national and conference contenders,” said Woodhouse.

After Arizona Western the Eagles will head back to Henderson, NV to take on Alan Hancock College.
