The Carbon Lady Dinos volleyball squad traveled to St. George for the Dixie Fly High tournament last Friday and Saturday. Playing seven matches in two days the Dinos went 4-0 on Friday only dropping one set .

On Saturday the Dinos started out the morning defeating region foes Emery 2-0 but then dropped their final two matches to Maple Mountain and another Region 12 opponent Richfield.

Here is a rundown of all the weekends matches:

Game 1- Pine View 25-16, 25-16 – Win 2-0

In the first game of the tournament Carbon drew Pine View, a 4A school from St. George. The Lady Dinos picked up the straight set victory. Senior Cora Lamborn led the team with six kills, while junior Makenna Blanc added eight digs as well as a team high 15 assists. Carbon ended this match with a 93.9 serving percentage.

Game 2 – Cedar 25-22, 23-25, 15-12- Win 2-1

Carbon carried their success from game 1 in to game two. Lamborn led once again with six kills while junior Katie Jones had 15 digs and Blanc offered up 12 assists.

Game 3 – Providence Hall 25-16, 25-19- Win 2-0

The Dinos went to 3-0 after defeating the Providence Hall Patriots in straight sets. Senior Abbie Saccomanno added 10 digs against the Patriots. Blanc gave Carbon 13 assists and senior Diana Morley chipped in with three kills in a game that saw the teams serving percentage drop to 77.6%.

Game 4 – Grantsville 25-22, 25-14- Win 2-0

In the last game on Friday evening Carbon played the Cowboys from Grantsville, a 3A team from Region 13, coming away with the straight set win. Once again Blanc would lead the team in assists with 21. Jones would come up with nine digs and Lamborn would add seven kills.

Game 5 – Emery 25-19, 25-18- Win 2-0

In their first action on Saturday the Dinos would face a familiar foe in the Spartans. Junior Emma Chritensen would lead the way with nine kills, Blanc would have 14 assists and Jones would go for 12 digs as Carbon would get a win against Emery.

Game 6- Maple Mountain 25-18, 15-25, 15-9- Loss 2-1

The Dinos would drop the first match of the weekend to the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles, a 5A team from Spanish Fork. They would take them to three sets but in the end the Golden Eagles would get the best of the Dinos. Christensen and Blanc would lead the team with 13 digs, each while Blanc had 13 assists and Lamborn would add eight kills.

Game 7- Richfield 25-16, 25-19 Loss 2-0

In the final match of the tournament the Dinos would face another region foe in the Richfield Wildcats. Richfield would beat the Dinos in straight sets but the Dinos would have strong showing from senior Gracie Salas with three kills and Blanc who once again would lead the team in digs (11) and assists (8).

The Dinos, who now sit at 7-2 on the season, will get a well deserved break until next Tuesday the 10th when they will open up region play as they host the South Sevier Rams (4-5 overall). The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m..
