The Carbon Dinos locked up a second place finish in the sixth Region 12 meet of the season Wednesday afternoon at the Hideout Golf Course in Monticello, the homesite of the San Juan Broncos.

Led by freshman Bode Salas, Carbon finished with a 347, falling six strokes back of the Grand Red Devils. Richfield ended third with a 350, followed by Emery. South Sevier and San Juan closed out the field of six.

Salas finished at the top of the individual leaderboard after firing a 77. Kaden Slavenksy was right behind with a 78. Nick Olson’s 91 counted towards the team’s final total, as did Jordan Penovich’s 101.

Despite finishing second the Dinos still maintain a 38-stroke lead in the overall region standings. Grand has created comfortable space ahead of third place Richfield, who has a commanding lead over South Sevier.

With only two region meets remaining on the schedule before the state tournament, Carbon will play host to their lone home meet on Thursday, Sept. 12.
