The Green River Pirates welcomed the Valley Buffaloes on Friday, and the result wasn’t what the Pirate faithful were looking for,  a 10-6 loss. The Pirates are sitting at 4-11 overall and 3-7 in Region 12 play with just three games left on the schedule.

The next three games against Bryce Valley, Panguitch and Piute are all on the road to close out the season. The playoffs are set to begin on October 4.

The Pirates had plenty of offense in this one as nine different players had hits. Senior Weston Hatfield-Knight registered a double with one run and two RBI’s. Sophomores Jay Mendez and Gavin Anderson also had doubles and both had one RBI each.

On the mound for the Pirates Senior Axel Anguiano went five innings giving up 12 hits, five earned runs and struck out four. Senior Preston Marshall went one inning giving up one hit, while walking two and striking out one and senior Sam Corrigan gave up seven hits, five runs (four earned) and striking out one in an innings work.

The next game for Green River will be on Wednesday as they travel to Tropic to take on Bryce Valley (3-14 overall and 1-10 in region). The two teams met back on August 30 in Green River with the Pirates coming up with the win 7-1.
