The cross country season came to a close for the Emery Spartans as both the boys and girls competed at the 3A State Championship meet Wednesday afternoon at Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake City.
Accumulating 115 points, the Emery boy’s team finished fourth overall. Carbon claimed the state championship with a dominating 57 points, followed by Richfield and Morgan. A total of ten teams competed in the finale.
Emery junior Bryar Meccariello led the charge for the Spartans as he finished fourth overall with a time of 16:11.3. Sophomore Jess Christiansen finished 12th, while Beau Cook gave the team it’s third top 30 placing. Byron Christiansen ended 40th and Merrit Meccariello came in 47th to round the team’s scoring.
The Emery Lady Spartans finished with 174 points, placing the team eighth place out of a nine team field.
The Morgan Trojans easily claimed the state championship after scoring 37 points. Union followed in a distant second with 93, edging third place North Sanpete’s 95. Judge Memorial and Grantsville rounded out the top five.
Freshman Rileigh Meccariello was the top performing Lady Spartan, finishing with a time of 22.27.1. Meccariello was joined by fellow freshman Ryleigh Lewis, who delivered the second fastest team time at 22:35.6.
