Price City each month sends a representative to Castle Country Radio to keep listeners posted or informed on various topics. This month brought in Price City Public Works Director, Miles Nelson who spoke on cleanup, snow removal, and potholes.

Fall is upon us and so is the accumulation of lots of leaves along properties and in the streets. “We want to remind residents the leaf battle is mostly theirs. We’ll go through and clean obstructions in the streets and stuff but we ask that residents please contain their leaves on their own properties. By putting them into the gutter it causes issues with flooding if we get rains and stuff, the waters can’t flow through the gutters; as well as a safety hazard for the vehicles and pedestrians,” said Nelson. Residents can get assistance with pickup/disposal of their bagged-up leaves by calling the Public Works Department at (435) 637-5010.

Winter is right around the corner so it is important that residents remember the city’s ordinances and snow removal procedures. “We’ve had good response from the public the last couple of years and trying to help us with that issue. As snow comes, we have to clear the streets, make the streets passable for the public. We have our priority system where we focus on high need areas first, the schools, the hospital and medical care areas, other public facilities to make sure that there is access for the public to get to those. Those are our first priority and Main Street is a big priority as well,” explained Nelson.  The city will then move to other residential areas throughout the city and depending on the magnitude of the storm it could take a day or two before they can get to all the streets in the city.

A few snow removal reminders for homeowners and their properties:
-Do not push or pile the snow into the street as it poses potential hazards for traffic.
-Snow should be kept as much as possible on the owner’s property and not places upon adjacent owner’s property or in the street.
-Sidewalks should be cleared within 24 hours of a snowstorm to allow for safe passage of pedestrians.

The city appreciates the public’s help with notifying them about road issues, including potholes or other hazards. “Our street crews are diligent in going out and filling those in and trying to prevent property damage and unsafe conditions for the cars. We do appreciate the public’s input and it’s ok to call us to let us know that you have a pothole that needs to be taken care of and will definitely get it on as fast as we can,” said Nelson. Community members that would like to report a pothole or other hazard can contact the Public Works Department at (435) 637-5010.
