Residents in the unincorporated areas of Carbon County will be receiving a post card in the mail today notifying them of the proposed tax increase to raise revenues in the municipal service fund.  The Carbon County Commissioners and Clerk/Auditor are looking to cover a three million dollar short fall the county is experiencing to cover expenses.  Many residents may remember a similar tax increase proposal that was proposed in 2017 that would have levied a 600% tax increase on the municipal services fund.

The revenue short falls are slightly smaller now than they were 2 years ago due to some cost cutting enacted by the county, but the proposed tax increase is on a nearly identical scale as before.  A resident with a property value of around $250,000 will see their tax on the municipal services fund go from around $80 in 2019 to over $600 in 2020.

A public hearing for this proposed tax increase is scheduled for November 20th at 6 pm in the Carbon County Commission Chamber.
