It’s time to start phase five of the River Restoration Project as Mayor Lenise Peterman stopped by Castle Country Radio to let the community know what is going to be taking place for that phase.

“So we’ll head back north, so we’ll be up Martin Road. The property owners up there have been so gracious, making permitting easy because we bring in obviously large equipment to move boulders and pull out railroad ties and things of that nature. All of this work always takes place during the winter months because the river is low and we have an opportunity to do some good cleanout. So that should begin in the next month or two,” stated Mayor Peterman. There are currently six phases scheduled but there could be another phase added at a later time as it is in the discussion stage at this point. Upon completion, the area will offer a four-mile recreational corridor through the heart of Helper.

The city recently received a grant from Rocky Mountain Power to assist in the improvements on Main Street. “They were gracious in providing a $1,000.00 that’s going towards our Main Street beautification efforts. So, you will probably see those funds expended more likely in the spring when we are ready to get back to additional benches and planters and planting and things of that nature,” explained Mayor Peterman. Officials hope to reach further north and south along Main Street to incorporate more improvements so eventually it will all tie together with the current look.

If this wasn’t enough the Helper Arts Festival approached the city about giving back to the community for all of their years of support. “They have partnered up with the Light Parade and together they are wanting to do new lighting across all of the old historic buildings. So I contacted Modern Display they will be down to look at the town and I’m optimistic that the City Council will approve whatever their request is since they are wanting to gift it back; buy all the material, pay for the installation so I think that is really cool and it’ll just really make us look even better,” said Mayor Peterman. The city hopes that the Christmas Light Project will be completed in time for the town’s Christmas Town Celebration Lights on Ceremony scheduled for November 29.
